Creating Strong Partnerships
KAHPERD is pleased to be a collaborative group of professionals eager to work alongside other national and state organizations who share our goals in creating healthier people and communities.
For more than 35 years, our national organization has worked together with the American Heart Association (AHA) to sponsor a joint program, Jump Rope for Heart. A Wisconsin teacher wanted to raise money for her school and created the idea of students jumping rope to earn money. SHAPE America contacted the AHA and the program became not only an important local tool for fundraising, but also an effective vehicle for heart health education and funding for cardiac research.
SHAPE America partners with many organizations to support the Let's Move! Active Schools initiative. These partner organizations include the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, the Partnership for a Healthier America, the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The Kansas Health Foundation (KHF), whose mission is to "improve the health of all Kansans" is an effective and valuable partner on the state level. KHF provides funding support for many of our efforts, including a recent grant for a statewide survey to determine the amount of recess time allowed to students in schools throughout Kansas.
Welcoming New Partners in Health and Fitness
One of KAHPERD's strategic goals is to develop new partnerships that are well aligned with our mission. Do you know of an organization on the state or national level with insight, resources, programs and shared areas of focus?
Successful KAHPERD partners typically offer:
- Sponsorships for conventions and workshops
- Grants and funding opportunities
- Member resources
- Professional development opportunities
Immediate Partner Opportunities
KAHPERD partnerships come in all shapes and sizes; there's no need to create a big new idea or assume that only national-level organizations are welcome to participate in promoting our goals. At KAHPERD, we want to make being on our team and helping to promote the health and fitness of Kansans as easy as possible.
Here are some immediate, short-term needs that we've identified. These opportunities provide easy ways for individuals, groups and organizations to collaborate with KAHPERD:
